Give Thanks for Food and Family

Happy Thanksgiving my friends. I hope you find the time to enjoy your friends and family and have the opportunity to eat some really good food. I found 2 tempting salad recipes right Here. I can't wait to try them. One is made with toasted pecans, cooked in a sugar glaze and topped off with cranberries and Gorgonzola cheese. YUM! The other is made with toasted almonds, strawberries and feta cheese. They both take a homemade dressing and romaine lettuce. Pass the wine please.
So yesterday was a success with a couple great new salad recipes and fabulous hair. Thanks Tyler and Madison you girls always know just how to whip my hair into shape.
Have a beautiful holiday but don't eat so much that you're too slow for the bargains on Friday. Meet me at the mall :)

I'm back after a long weekend. I have accomplished very little since we last spoke but I'm alright with that. On the very top of my mission list today is to find a really awesome recipe for a salad that I haven't made before and shop for the ingredients before my hair appointment this afternoon. I always end up with salad duty for family holidays. Not really sure why that is? Oh yeah it's probably because I'm really not that good at cooking.
Well I did promise a secret didn't I. Yes well here it is: I am really kind of liking this whole unemployed thing and I'm not really searching all that hard for a job. Shhhhh!
Not that I could find one in Michigan right now anyway. You remember in years past that around the holidays most retail stores had help wanted or now hiring signs in their front windows? Well not this year. Nope, notta, at least not in Michigan that is. I told myself if I saw one of those signs asking for temporary help-I would apply. Well I can't say that I am too disappointed. True I am a little bored but I have my writing projects to keep me busy. Oh yeah, my latest novel is off to a kind of slow start but I'm working at it.
I'll let you know if I find any really killer salad recipes and how my hair turns out.
By the way I am on the prowl for any fun Christmas Day activities or themes for this year. if you have any great ideas please share. In the past we have had ornament or white elephant auctions with the money being donated to charity. It is fun and giving at the same time but I am looking for something new. What does your creative mind have to say about this?

Mother's Day Reflection

My Mother's Day weekend was wonderful and here are the beautiful people that I spent it with. This is a picture of my extended family on our annual Mushroom Hunting/Mother's Day weekend gathering. We had a fabulous time.




Here is my beautiful daughter and her beautiful babe taking a much needed cat nap. This is her first Mother's day. Can't wait to see the creation she is working on for me for Mother's Day. I will post a pic when it is finished.


Don't you just love this dress form? I've been wanting one for a while and now and my cleaver little boys pulled a quick one on me with the help of their sister my sis and my cousins. They were very sneaky taking it out of the very shop I was in, while I wasn't looking.

So cute. I know they aren't that little any more. But they will always be my little darlings anyway. Thanks boys.

More treasures that I picked up while at the mushroom retreat. Did I say this was a mushroom hunting trip. Well sometimes I spend more time in the shops than in the woods. I have a few projects in mind for these little beauties. I'll let you know what develops.

My niece provided a little entertainment for the family. My Mom and Baby Girl are enjoying the music. She really does a beautiful job singing and playing the guitar.

Last but not least is, my baby, who was awarded the trophy and crowned The Mushroom King for 2008. It was not a banner year for morel mushrooms but he did manage to find quite a few. It was a wonderful trip and the thanks goes to my Aunt who always plans and arranges all the accommodations for everyone each year.

Thank You Auntie we couldn't do it without you!

Mother's are so special no matter their demographic, ethnic background, religious affiliation or species. There is nothing like a mother's touch. We quite often take this for granted but it leaves us with a lasting sense of warmth and security that could not be replaced by anything else. Your mother is the first human attachment or bond that you experienced in life.
So I would like to dedicate this post to all of you and your mother's.


This is a 4 generation photo. Right down to baby girl. This was after a long Easter celebration. We were all a little tired but we cooperated with my sister, who thought it was important to document the generations. She was right. Thanks sis.


This is a Romantic Tussy Mussy cone that I made in honor of Mother's Day. It is so pink and sweet. I photographed it in front of a cupboard that I bought on one of my junking trips with Mom and sis. I fell in love with the romantic look of this cupboard. These little kissing cherubs are just gorgeous. My Mom is always such a great sport about going to all the places my sister and I want to go. She is always so supportive and a lot of fun.

Here is a close up of the flower with cameo face and vintage brooch. It has a kind of shabby chic feel to it. When I got it finished I realized that this isn't really my mom's style (more mine) so I am working on another one that fits her better.



I will be off for the weekend to spend it with my mother, my children, my new grand baby (Baby Girl) and my extended family. We will be up north, for our annual morel mushroom hunting trip. Every year at this time about 30 members of my family head north to the woods to share a lodge for the weekend. We head for the woods to look for this odd looking fungus to roll in flour and cook in butter. YUM!

They really do taste better than they look. I guess when you grow up eating them you really don't question the reality of eating fungi so gross and slimy looking. There have been a few years when we really did get into patches of them like the photo above, but most of the time it really does require a lot of hunting and a good pair of eyes. Do any of you mushroom hunt? Do you have any secrets for me. There is a trophy involved and I could use your help.

Happy Anniversary P.S. I Love You

This post is a tribute to my wonderful parents and their 50th wedding anniversary. It sounds like the same old cliche to say that I couldn't have asked for better parents, so I won't say that. I could have asked for better parents but they would not have been found, because I don't believe I could have two better people to be my parents. I am so proud of them and honored that they have chosen to stay together for all these years. They have made our family the special unit that it is today and made us (their children) the adults we are today. It is because of the love and support, that they showed each other and their children, that made myself and my siblings into doting parents and committed spouses. Please help me wish them a Happy Anniversary by leaving a little note at the end of this post.
I would like to end this post with my favorite family quote.
