In search of this old house

This is a sad sight all too common these days. So many homes have been abandoned, taken away or foreclosed on. So many families robbed of their security and sense of belonging.

In the past couple of months, I have been helping my son look for a house. He is a young boy wanting to buy an inexpensive house to fix up, live in for a while and then eventually sell when he is ready to move up to the next level.

It has been an exciting time for him but also very sad. Many of the houses that he has toured have been foreclosures. I know someone is eventually going to buy them but it still seems sad to buy into someone else's misery. I am amazed at just how many repos are out there. It is a common sight in Michigan with the Auto industry in dire straights and the unemployment rate so high.

I guess I would like to look at it from a positive perspective. Maybe we have all learned that we can do with less and that it is family that really matters. I guess it is kind of like starting over for the family that lost their house and also for the new tenants that will make it their home.
Tell me, what do you think?

  1. I love your thought provoking posts Mya. I guess what I think is that he should not let the fact that it has been forclosed keep him from buying a home if he likes it. Look at it this way, the damage has already been done....and whether he buys a foreclosed home or not, it won't change the situation for the other family. I may not be making any sense...but JMO.
Good luck to him in the search. He sounds like a smart young man!

  2. Your photos are beautiful! It is sooo sad! There is an empty house on my street now. So many people have lost their jobs...my hubby included. Fortunately he found a new one but unfortunately not in Michigan. So now we are a 2 state family because the housing market is so depressed we cannot sell our house! We tried but no buyers, no lookers even. We just remember to be thankful we can handle apartment rent and our house and that God is blessing us! I pray for all our Michigan neighbors! I know we are not the only 2 state families on our street!
    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hi Mya , my family is a victim of foreclosure also. Our oldest son has lost his family and home. Wife found another man she wanted. And he cannot keep the house on just his income and if he could , she wants her half out of the house and he can't pay it to her . So, down the drain everything went !
And we couldn't help him because I was stricken with cancer and I can't work any longer. So we are a 1 income family also . Times are hard and I am afraid we ain't seen nothin yet ! But we are still praising God and we are blessed . You can always find someone else in worse shape or worse problems .

  4. I think it's wonderful that he has so many choices, and he will be able to bring love into an abandoned house that was once a home!
